Two Weeks, Many Realities Later

Lookout Sea!!!! I arrived in California!!!! I am living in West Oakland for the next two weeks remaining. I have been living in California for two weeks. I cannot easily comprehend this yet. I made a major push for employment and many employers simply have not returned emails or phone calls. We live in a new economy and a new society.

The great news is that I am meeting many wonderful people and have been able to continue my explorations and branching out. The bad news is, the cost of friends and fun is high in the Bay Area and I am running out of money! I am now half way through my October lease and have already started the search for the next place. Many places and many meetings. I feel like this is the job interview process I could never break into.

On the job front I am currently facing a major day on Thursday to hear back from a potential employer. I am crossing my fingers that the offer which was given me continues to persist and my desire to accept the position is fulfilled.

Exploration and geographically- the interesting stuff:
I have seen so much already. First off- I managed to get on a surfboard and ride a wave in the blazing red setting sun over the Pacific under the watchful eye of a seal. Ventura treated me well and I reconnected with many friends I found to be immediately great people down that way. And one has already visited in SF.

Next- I have been cycling around town. Since arriving, I have probably put about 20 miles on the car- in two weeks. Thats about a millionth of the single week prior to that. Although cycling numbers are down, I hope to start getting out on weekends and really tacking on some miles while the weather holds out for this month. I did get one memorable ride in to see Andrea, a new friend of mine. It was night and moist and the eucalyptus trees so heavily perfumed the air I felt I was using eucalpytus scented soap! I am a new fan of those trees.

I have seen: The Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, and the new Academy of Sciences building. Great works. The sun is bright here and I haven't seen a cloud in about 2 weeks. I hear that will change in 2-3 weeks though when "winter" sets in officially. I also have yet to get out and explore beyond my new town. I want mountains again. I can't wait to explore that.

First, a job. Then a house. Then updating the license and car. So much to do, so little time!

I am also very cognizant of feeling separated from my friends and family and have already begun to look forward to a whirlwind Christmas return.

Well, this was very "stream of concsiousness", but a quick look into living in CA for two weeks and the confusion and unstructured life I still lead.
